Dr. Jay Shiao, a radiation oncologist is an expert in the management of genitourinary and gynecologic cancers and is a national leader in the American Brachytherapy Society. His research focuses on brachytherapy, developing education curriculums, and big data. Dr. Shiao joined the KU Cancer Center in October 2022 and is excited to contribute to the excellent patient care, clinical research, and extensive education opportunities. He believes in providing patient centered care with multidisciplinary cancer medicine concordant with the patient’s values to achieve the best possible outcome.
Clinical Focus
• Genitourinary cancers, including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer, kidney cancer
• Gynecologic cancers, including cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer
• Stereotactic ablative radiation (SABR/SBRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)
• Brachytherapy
Dr. Shiao grew up in Plano, TX, and attended Northwestern University for his undergraduate degree. He returned to Texas for medical school in San Antonio, and after discovering his passion for radiation oncology, obtained a Masters in Radiation Biology at Oxford University. He completed residency at the University of Colorado and sought additional training in brachytherapy at UCLA.
In his spare time Dr. Shiao enjoys watching football and basketball and stays active skiing, running, mountain biking, scuba diving and traveling.
