The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus recognizes Mary (Kate) Brehm, LPN, who has dedicated 50 years of service.

Brehm began her journey with The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus in 1969.

“I remember being very nervous on my first day. I was scared to death,” Brehm laughed.

Sprinkling humor into her patient visits is most enjoyable, according to Brehm.

“My favorite part of working is visiting with my patients, joking with patients, seeing their smiles and laughter,” Brehm shared.

Brehm has seen a lot of change in 50 years. “Most of the changes have occurred with charting and working with computers,” Brehm explained.

Brehm’s favorite part of her work day is getting ready to come to work.

“I always enjoy coming in and knowing there is always something different for that day. I always look forward to learning something new.”

Brehm recommends others to work at The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus.

“It's a warm atmosphere and there is great teamwork from the top, down to the housekeepers,” Brehm said. “There is a lot of caring for patients and each other.”
