Tidbit Tuesday: Happy Trails to You

With the warmer weather, many are looking to hit the trails for a workout! We have listed a few resources to help you locate wonderful trails right here in Kansas.

Travel Kansas is a great resource when searching for parks and trails to explore. Here are a few helpful links picked out from their website:

Suggested items to have in your backpack for a day hike include:

Food and Water:
            Protein (jerky, tuna and/or chicken pouches, protein bar)
            Walnuts, almonds and other nuts
            Fruit packed trail mixes
            Your daily vitamins
            Water, water and more water
            Electrolytes (Propel, Sugar free Gatorade)

Weather appropriate clothing (moisture wicking and layers)

Hiking boots or other appropriate shoes

First-aid kit, to include sunscreen

Navigation tool such as a map or compass

Hiking sticks – especially if doing a lot of hills or slippery areas to help maintain balance

The last guest speaker from our online support group was from the Shawnee County Extension Office.  She promoted Walk Kansas and we encourage our patients to check out the program.  Hurry as registration ends on Sunday, April 3, 2022.  You can learn more about the 8 week program here
