What is the flu?

Influenza (flu) is a virus that can cause mild to severe illness. In serious cases, the flu may lead to death. Everyone is at risk for contracting the flu. Those with underlying or chronic medical conditions such as diabetes or asthma may be at higher risk of contracting a serious case of the virus.

Symptoms of the flu include:
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Fatigue or body weakness
  • Fever
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea

Who should get a flu shot?

Everyone older than six months should receive a flu shot.
