About Vimalkumar Patel, MD

Dr. Patel is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, and critical care. He provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of pulmonary conditions, including COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, sleep apnea, and lung cancer, and also treats critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU).

He is trained in advanced pulmonary procedures such as bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), navigational bronchoscopy for diagnosing lung nodules, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and ultrasound-guided pleurX catheter placement. His specialized training in navigational bronchoscopy enables minimally invasive evaluation and treatment planning for patients with lung nodules and suspected lung cancer.

Dr. Patel is committed to patient-centered, evidence-based, and compassionate care. He emphasizes clear communication, shared decision-making, and continuity of care from the ICU to the outpatient clinic. His healthcare career began as a pharmacy technician, an experience that inspired his interest in medicine. Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, completed his internal medicine residency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and pursued fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine in Syracuse, New York. He was drawn to the field for its blend of scientific expertise and patient-focused care—providing life-saving treatments in the ICU and long-term support for chronic conditions in the clinic.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Patel enjoys history podcasts, spending time with his daughter and family, and contributing to the hospital community. He actively serves on several hospital committees, helping shape policies and improve systems of care to benefit both patients and the healthcare team.
