At the completion of this class, participants will be able to discuss and/or demonstrate a variety of non-medical comfort measures that can be applied to their labor and birth experiences, including (but not limited to) hydrotherapy, heat or cold therapy, aromatherapy, upright positioning, positive affirmations, hypnobirthing or meditation, guided relaxation, massage, and much more. Expectant parents will also be well versed in their options for medicalized pain relief measures such as epidurals and IV pain medication, and any associated risks, benefits, and alternatives. Participants will be able to verbalize and indicate to their support person the comfort measures that they wish to implement in their labor experience, and support team members will have a well-rounded understanding of techniques that their pregnant partner can try while in labor.
