Cardiology Services

A Legacy of Heart Care

Half of all deaths in America are attributed to heart disease, which includes heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure and other heart-related illnesses. More than 60 million Americans have some form of these potentially lethal diseases.  At The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Heart and Vascular Center, we promise state-of-the-art care for the heart of our community.

Our board-certified providers and experts are each dedicated to the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of heart and blood vessel disease. We believe in treatment, education and rehabilitation for every patient. That’s why we offer a full range of heart and vascular care services for patients in northeast Kansas, from sophisticated screening and diagnostic tests to advanced medical treatment using the latest in technology and equipment. Our facilities feature full-service catheterization labs, accredited cardiac and vascular imaging and vein clinic.

We were the first hospital in Topeka to have an accredited chest pain center, which means that we meet or exceed national standards in cardiac care. The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus is proud to continue a legacy of quality. We offer patients experience they can trust.

For every heart in our community, the future of healthcare is here.

The Watchman procedure

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) causes your heart to beat irregularly, which affects its ability to pump blood normally. When the heart doesn’t pump correctly, blood can collect and form clots, possibly causing a stroke. People with AFib are at an increased risk for stroke than someone with a regular heartbeat.

At the University of Kansas Health System St Francis Campus, we offer the Watchman™ procedure, which reduces stroke risk in people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem. This device implantation procedure works differently than blood thinners like warfarin. The Watchman™ is a permanent implant that closes off a part of the heart where blood clots commonly form. The Watchman™ implant is about the size of a quarter, and it doesn’t require open-heart surgery.

For more information about the Watchman™or to find out if you’re a candidate, call 785-233-9643
