Appointments

Office visits are scheduled by appointment only. If an appointment cannot be kept, please notify us as soon as possible. Our providers make every effort to see you at the appointed time, but due to the complexities of a medical practice, it is not always possible to see you at the exact time. Please be assured we will do everything possible to keep your waiting time to a minimum. Click here to learn more about what to expect at your first appointment.

Office Hours

Our office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Telephone Calls

Many phone calls are handled by our office each day. We answer as many calls as we can as they come in, and utilize a voice messaging system for those that we are unable to attend to at the moment the call is received. When you call, we ask that you provide complete information concerning your problem so that we can respond as soon as possible. We return calls in the order that they are received and will attempt to return your call the same day that it is received with most calls returned within an hour of your call. It is our policy to not treat illnesses or injuries over the phone, so please be prepared to make an appointment at the time of your call.

Contacting Our Nursing Staff

We understand that you may have questions regarding your treatment. We prefer that you utilize MyChart to communicate with our staff. We will be able to reply to you via the secure messaging system or we may call you to discuss the issue further. Many telephone calls are handled by our office each day. We answer calls as they are received and return calls as time permits and as the situation demands. We utilize a voice mail system and may ask you to leave a message to return your call if we are unable to answer at the time of your call.

Emergencies

If you experience an emergency, call 911 immediately. Emergency transportation will be dispatched to your location. If emergency personnel determine that you need to be evaluated by one of our providers, they will contact us and arrangements will be made for your evaluation.

Reaching the “On Call” Physician

One of our physicians are always “on call” for the practice. If you need to contact our “on call” physicians after office hours, call 785-233-7491 and our answering service will direct your call accordingly.

Hospitalizations

Our providers are members of the medical staff at The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus. We provide emergency orthopedic call coverage for the hospital. In addition, several of our providers have clinical privileges at surrounding community hospitals. If your physician determines that you are in need of hospital care, you will be referred to the most appropriate facility.

Prescriptions

The best time to refill a prescription is to notify our nurses in person at the time of your appointment. If you would like to request a refill prior to your next appointment, please utilize MyChart to submit your request. That is the most accurate and efficient manner to communicate with us and your pharmacy. If you call our office to request a refill, you may be required to leave a message. Requests received after 4 p.m. will be processed the following business day. Prescription refills will not be processed after 4 p.m. or on weekends.

Insurance Authorizations

If your insurance plan requires services to be prior-authorized, it is your responsibility to see that this process is initiated. Our Patient Services staff will assist you in obtaining the appropriate authorization for treatment that may be required of your insurance plan. Typically, this is required for services that include, but are not limited to, surgery, diagnostic tests (MRI, CT, etc.) and durable medical equipment. Our staff will assist you, however it is your sole responsibility to know your plan coverage, know which providers participate in your insurance network, and understand and comply with your insurance plan’s financial obligations.

Medical Records Requests

To submit a request, please click here and follow the directions. If you require assistance, please contact our Health Information department at 785-295-8140.

Your First Visit

Your appointment time allows us to address one priority problem. If you have more than one problem to discuss, please inform the scheduler when you make the appointment and she may be able to allot more time or schedule another appointment on another date. This reduces the wait time for patients scheduled after you. As our physicians have 24 hour hospital emergency call responsibilities, please be aware that delays may occur. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Orthopedic Shoulder Exam

Please try to arrive fifteen minutes prior to your initial appointment. If you are running late, call our switchboard at 785-233-7491 or 800-794-5242 and we will try to accommodate you. If you are more than fifteen minutes late, you may be asked to reschedule.

Items To Bring With You To Your Appointment

  • Completed Registration Forms
All of our registration forms are available to print on this website or if you have been granted access to our MyChart you may complete them online. Please complete these forms online or bring them with you to your appointment.
  • Health Insurance Information
Please bring your health insurance information with you. This includes insurance cards, Medicare and/or Medicaid cards, liability claims, and/or workers’ compensation information.
  • Health Insurance Co-Payment
You will be asked to pay this upon check-in for your appointment. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. If you do not have health insurance, you may be asked to make a preliminary payment of $100.00.
  • Referral Form
If your health insurance requires a referral form from your primary care physician, please bring it with you to your appointment.
  • Photo Identification
Please bring your driver's license, passport, state issued ID card, or other photo ID to your appointment for identification purposes.
  • Previous Medical Records
Our providers assess your condition by reviewing previous medical records as well as examining you. If you have been treated for this problem in the past, please bring all related medical records with you. Our office has remote access to all diagnostic imaging tests performed at The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus. Therefore, if your test was performed by St. Francis Campus, you do not need to contact them for copies. Examples of important medical records include:
    • X-rays and reports
    • MRI scans and reports
    • CT scans and reports
    • Bone scans
    • Physician notes
    • Surgery or operative reports
    • You must contact the treating physician's office in order to obtain this information. Many offices require a 7-10 day notice to process requests, so we strongly encourage you to call and request this information as soon as you make your appointment with us.
  • List of Medications & Allergies
Please bring a current list of all of your medications (including over-the-counter and herbal substances) and any allergies you may have.

To Better Serve You

  • Please contact your referring physician's office 7-10 days in advance of your appointment to allow plenty of time for medical records, MRI and/or x-rays to be sent, copied or ready for pick up.
  • Please write down your questions prior to your appointment. It is easy to forget the important questions while you’re in the room with the physician.
  • Please allow plenty of time for travel. Consider the weather conditions and road construction as you plan your visit.
  • Please bring something to do while you are waiting. The time needed for each visit depends on the complexity of each person’s problem and we cannot predict exactly how long an appointment may be. For that reason our wait times vary.
